Inspired by the seasons: autumn
“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” – Jim Bishop, author
To be inspired by autumn is to believe in the magic of the season. There’s something special about autumn mornings. You’ve only got to watch children on a crisp, blue-sky day, kicking orange and yellow leaves high into the air, or stuffing handfuls of conkers into their pockets on the way to school, to recognise its charm.
Even the light is different at this time of year…golden sunlight catching the leaves and casting longer shadows across the leaf-covered ground.
As part of our continuing ‘Inspired by the seasons’ blog series, we’ve asked our seven Zebra ambassadors to share what makes the season special to them.
Autumn is the ‘golden hour’ of the creative year.
Chloe: autumn fires my imagination
“I love autumn!” says Chloe. “It’s my favourite season to create journalling spreads for. My journal colour palette changes to oranges and greens, inspired by pumpkins, scarlet and orange leaves, chunky knit jumpers – and pumpkin latte!”
“There’s so much for a creative person to choose from🍁”
From crimson with a splash of gold, to fiery oranges and saffron yellows – this is the season to experiment with bold new colour combos in your journals, study plans or even to-do lists.
Peach, Sophie and Lois: inspired by autumn
For Ambassadors Peach and Sophie, autumn signals the start of a new academic year – and all that lies ahead. “I know I need to focus and work hard for another school year!” says Peach. “That’s very motivating.”
“I feel a burst of creativity in autumn too,” agrees Sophie. “It coincides with the start of the academic year. I feel motivated to use colours that reflect the season in my notes!”
Lois is looking forward to planning for a busy birthday and festive season: “I like to get ahead by starting early. It helps me plan my budget and manage my wellbeing and health by spreading out tasks.”
“Armed with my favourite Zebra pens and my list book, I’m investing in myself and lessening the overwhelm.”
Amber, Amanda and Alex: autumn is our time to reflect
“Autumn is usually a time of change for me,” says Amber. “So I enjoy decompressing with things that I love. I like to go for walks, be creative and bake. My journal often reflects the seasons, but never more so than in autumn, with its beautiful golds and oranges”.
After the noisy celebration of summer, and before the chaos of Christmas hits, autumn’s the natural ‘reset’ moment. It’s a season for self-reflection, taking long strolls, losing track of time.
“To me, autumn feels like a time of fresh starts,” says Amanda. “And it’s mostly super busy! “The kids are back to school – armed with new stationery! And they get excited about Halloween from early September 🤣.”
“For wellbeing, it’s important we as a family are together every evening for dinner. It’s a chance to discuss our day and decompress 💕”.
Ambassador Alex embraces autumn as her favourite season – and finds she’s at her most creative. “The children are back at school, there aren’t any major holidays, and a rainy day is the perfect excuse to spend hours with my journal.”
Taking the time to enjoy being creative will build up your reserves of emotional wellbeing and sustain you through the winter months.

Autumn is both creative and spiritual muse
Autumn is a life lesson in the power of change.
The falling leaves are a powerful metaphor for letting go of what holds us back – from old habits, lifestyle choices or unfulfilling relationships.
You can let go in little ways, from decluttering a workspace, or clearing out your old stationery, to making empowering life choices like changing jobs, or planning to travel.
Let’s be inspired by autumn and celebrate it for all it is!
