Spring clean your pencil case

Your spring stationery edit
Is your pencil case bursting at the seams? Full of grubby rubbers, highlighters that’ve dried out, or a pencil sharpener that breaks more pencils than it sharpens?
Sounds like it’s high time for a spring-clean.
“The start of spring, whenever it arrives, is the perfect chance to clean and reorganise,” says our brand ambassador, Claire. “For me, that includes my desk and pencil cases. I get rid of any rubbish and items I don’t need and fill my case up with new pens and stationery I want to use; in spring colours.”
Spring-cleaning is more than a refresh. Research has proved that clutter raises our stress levels, and reduces focus, productivity and our sense of purpose. Decluttering improves our mood, restores order, and makes us feel we’re back in control again. And let’s face it, any task that involves choosing new pens never feels like a chore!
Out with the old
Everything in your 2026 pencil case has to earn its place. After all, space is at a premium! Start by taking everything out and test all the pens to see if they properly work. Be ruthless. Discard what you don’t want (including colours that you’ve never really used) or what doesn’t work. Wipe the case down with a damp cloth (or you could even treat yourself to a new one if the old one has seen better days).
Make sure you keep or replace stationery essentials. Claire’s pencil case ‘must-haves’ include marker pens, scissors, a glue stick, mini pad of sticky notes and washi tape.
You can see the difference (and all that free space!) straightaway. Now the fun starts.
Plan your pencil case
Just before you start making a list of all the pens you need to replenish, take a moment to consider what’s coming up for you in the next few months. Will you be revising or sitting exams? Will you be planning activities for the summer holidays, journalling alfresco, taking up a new creative hobby or experimenting with new techniques or colour palettes for your next design project? Planning makes sure that you don’t over-buy (so tempting!) and you curate a bespoke pencil case for you.

In with the new
No pencil case – or handbag, tote or glove compartment – should be without a 5 or 7-pack of our bestselling Z-Grip ballpoint 1mm black ink pens.
Affordable and versatile, these multi-tasking, retractable ballpoints are the pens that go the extra mile for you – often the relentless task of endless pages of revision notes or extra assignments at work. They’re smudge-resistant and their soft rib, barrel-grip design means they won’t slip or slide in your hand. “Super-smooth ink makes these a delight to write with!” says our brand ambassador, Peach. “For me, Z-Grip pens are ideal for my study notes and exam papers.”
Spring is the moment when colour returns to the world, and your spring pencil case makeover wouldn’t be complete without a set of our pastel or rainbow Z-Grips. The pastel barrel colours are irresistible: from mint green and primrose yellow to lilac, blossom pink and baby blue. Pick up a set from any of these retailers: The Range; Ryman; Sainsbury; or Amazon.
But spring is also full of energy and colour: a riot of daffodil yellow, leaf green and tulip scarlet. Our 7-pack Rainbow Z-Grip range, also with a medium 1mm nib and black ink, is that vibrant splash of colour we need to take us out of the dreariness of winter and into the beautiful, refreshing, new season of spring. Pick up a pack at Asda or Tesco.
Add new Mildliner marker pens for highlighting key points, or for standout text. Choose your colours to match your spring palette, and your pencil case is like new again.
Save space in your pencil case
We’ll let you into a little secret. You may want to save space in your pencil case for a brand-new Zebra pen heading to the UK soon. The sleek, stylish bLen pens are already turning heads with their innovative design and archival quality emulsion-ink. Their award-winning vibration-free technology means they’re genuinely smoother to write with. “I’ve been loving mine lately for faster writing and essay writing,” says Peach. “I’ll definitely have bLen pens in my summer exam pencil case!”
It’s not just bLen that is on the horizon. Our ambassadors are busy trialling and testing out an incredible range of other new Zebra pens which will be coming your way later in the year, and they’ll be giving an exclusive preview of their favourites in our May blog: Get Set for Summer.
