Spring is here. Let’s get creative

Spring is here. Let's get creative

It’s been a long time coming but it looks like those named storms have finally blown themselves out – and spring is just around the corner. And if you’ve had your own hard winter – unremitting rain, wind and snow, or plagued by flu or the 100-day cough – it couldn’t come soon enough! Spring is a natural healer, and we all feel better with the sun on our face.

Just like the natural world, our impulse to create something fresh and original seems to triple in spring. And the more you create – the better you feel.

Spring is the season to embrace your creativity. These are our top creative starters for spring and the best Zebra pens to help you get the best results.

Start a spring journal

Spending time outdoors, watching the natural world coming back to life is incredibly absorbing – and creatively stimulating. Make notes and sketches while you’re out and recreate them in your journal back home. It’s a truly mindful creative experience.

If you don’t already have a nature journal – this is the season to start!

What to take…

Z-Grips are the born multi-taskers of Zebra pens – you can write, draw and doodle with them. They’re good everyday all-rounders for whatever writing or creative task you are involved in, plus with a choice of dozens of different barrel wrap designs, there’s a pen to suit your every mood and occasion.

Our two pastel-themed Z-Grips in blossom blue marble and hint-of-pink white marble 3-packs have a real spring-like feel, and they’re both available at Asda.

And we’ve all gone a bit crazy for these new daisy-themed Z-Grips in lilac, available exclusively at Home Bargains.

Start a spring sketchbook

Spring is nature’s equivalent of a growth spurt! Task yourself with making a daily sketch of a spring moment: it not only hones your sketching skills, but it’ll also give you something to treasure in winter.

It doesn’t have to be perfect! When you start looking closely, neither is nature – every twig or flower is unique.

And if you’re new to drawing wildlife, take some tips from our brand ambassador, Amanda in our recent blog post, “How to draw a bird“.

What to choose

Use a Z-Grip for fine line illustrations or invest in a mechanical pencil

And if you want to work in colour, these two Mildliner marker pen sets – the Mildliner Fluorescent and Mildliner Gentle collections are the season’s must haves.

Bring your ideas to life in delicate shades of baby pink, soda blue, sherbet lemon and lilac. The ultra-fine marker tip is perfect for detail. They’re ideal for soft colour layering too as you can see in much of brand ambassador, Amanda’s work.

Compose a spring poem

Spring has inspired more poetry than all the other seasons put together.

Don’t overthink it – just let your pen take over. As soon as you learn to let go of consciously composing and just feel the flow, you’ll be surprised how liberating it feels.

When you rewrite it or revise it later, you can add decorative borders, spring-themed stickers or washi tape and creative flourishes, or experiment with calligraphy for the title or key words.

What to use

Our smooth-as-silk Sarasa gel pens feel so effortless to write with, so they’re perfect for the budding poet. Our classic Sarasa Clip 0.7 in vintage black is a popular choice with our brand ambassadors.

Wake up and smell the daffodils!

Simply immersing yourself in the beauty surrounding you is like spending a day in the spa or sharing coffee with your closest friend. Spring is our natural high – enjoy!
